Charter

1. Purpose

1.1. The Association of Cambridge Theatre Societies (ACTS) exists to promote Student Theatre undertaken within Cambridge, both to encourage involvement in productions and attendance at performances.
1.2. ACTS does not produce or fund shows.

2. Steering Group (ACTS SG)

2.1. The Steering Group shall consist of no fewer than 3 members and shall be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of ACTS.
2.2. One member of the Steering Group shall be designated Chairman, and will have responsibility for calling Affiliate Meetings (see below) and overall responsibility for all ACTS activities.
2.3. The chairman may appoint a secretary to take notes at meetings, not necessarily from within the SG.
2.4. The Steering Group will be re-appointed annually.
2.4.1. A full process for annual reappointment of the Steering Group will be determined by June 2006.
2.4.2. In the interim, the 2005/6 SG and 2006/7 SG may have to be appointed by executive decision. In this case, the existing Chair of ACTS may make a decision, subject to formal approval from the affiliate groups.

3. Affiliation

3.1. Any group whose main activity is theatrical, whether or not a registered society with the University of Cambridge, may be “affiliated” to ACTS at the discretion of the ACTS Steering Group.
3.2. ACTS shall organise not less than termly a meeting, to which all affiliated societies are invited, to discuss ACTS and any other issues affecting Cambridge Drama.
3.3. Affiliated groups are required to make every effort to provide one representative at each meeting. However, it is recognized that it will not always be possible to meet this requirement.
3.4. Affiliated groups are requested to enter into their constitution, where appropriate, a statement of their affiliation to ACTS and interest in its continued running.
3.5. In matters of conflict, a vote may be held, in which case each affiliated group holds one vote.
3.6. Groups may send more than one representative to a meeting, but in case of formal votes, only one per group may participate.
3.7. Groups who do not send a representative to a meeting forfeit their right to any formal vote at that meeting – no voting by proxy.

4. camdram.net

4.1. camdram.net is to serve as a central point of information for all Cambridge student drama.
4.2. camdram.net provides information about all aspects of all shows from any affiliated societies with no undue bias. Information from unaffiliated societies may be included at the discretion of the ACTS SG.
4.3. To have a society account on camdram.net requires that a society is affiliated with ACTS. However, non-affiliated societies may list shows on a case-by-case basis.
4.4. The Steering Group must ensure the smooth operation of camdram.net. This may, however, be effected by appointing website technical administrators who are not part of the Steering Group.

5. Annual “Guide to Student Drama”

5.1. The SG must coordinate the production of an annual printed guide to getting involve in drama, if such a project is approved by the affiliated societies.
5.2. The SG is free to appoint designers and editors from outside the Steering Group. However, the overall project must be coordinated by a member of the SG.
5.3. The cost of producing the Guide shall be shared between affiliated societies.
5.3.1. Any affiliated group may choose not to contribute to the cost of producing the Guide without prejudice as to their involvement in other ACTS schemes.
5.3.2. The SG shall determine a suitable cost split in consultation with all societies.
5.3.3. It is recognized there is no entirely satisfactory way of determining a “fair” split. In 2004 the split was achieved on a scaled “pledge” system, and each society ended up paying considerably less than they had originally pledged. It is hoped a similar system may continue to work in the future.
5.4. The Guide will include a section describing each society which contributes financially to the Guide.
5.4.1. Societies not contributing financially to the guide forfeit their own section entirely, except under exceptional circumstances determined by the SG.
5.4.2. No undue precedence will be given to any particular society, but it is recognized that it is not viable to allocate exactly the same amount of space to each society, and that there must be some order in which the societies are listed (which might be alphabetical, for instance).
