The Miscellaneous Theatre Festival

The idea behind the Miscellaneous Theatre Festival is to encourage the ideas out of people's heads and thrust them blinking into the stagelights. There is very little chance in Cambridge to try things out on stage, generally any new script is under an obligation to not lose too much money and to be in competition with the likes of William Shakespeare, and other well known professionals.

The point is that THE MISCELLANEOUS THEATRE FESTIVAL offers an interesting and very low-pressure environment to try out ideas. The onus is on being interesting, on being original, than on being necessarily good. We hope that a lot of the pieces we may receive will be good because they're interesting and because they're original, but we're hoping the removal of these obligations, to make money, to be polished, to be mainstream, whatever you want to call them, will encourage lots of people who haven't necessarily thought to work for stage before to work for stage now.

There will be at the very least a top prize of £100 each to the most interesting writing and the most interesting direction. The more entries we have, the more people who come, the bigger the whole damn thing is, then the more smaller prizes we will hand out as recognition, rather than just an incentive, to the best and most exciting and, hell, the most spunky pieces we come across.

For now this is just a rallying call to all of you, whether you'd describe yourself as an actor, or a writer, or a techie, or indeed as anything else, to jot down any ideas you have that would be fun to try out. You must do this by FEBRUARY 2ND, that's the end of week 2 next term. Start writing now and over the holidays, and send it to the relevant people when you're happy, or less unhappy, or bored with it. You can submit anonymously if you're shy and we'll try our very best to stage anything submitted.

We'll also be looking for interested directors and performers. Again, just the same as is the case for interested writers - no experience is at all necessary. The whole festival is looking for new things and new people and new stuff in general. If you're interested, just email saying so and we'll add you onto a mailing list to get in contact with you when all the pieces are submitted and ready to be rehearsed and tried out.

If you have any questions at all, email PRESIDENT@CLAREACTORS.COM and an answer will be gotten back to you very soon indeed.
