"I will come home to a country I know,
And take up the life I once knew."

It is 1939, and the small English village of Iddesleigh waits anxiously on the precipice of warfare. Still recovering from the aftermath of the First World War, the community prepares to face devastation once more. With evacuees arriving, men and boys signing up to fight, and heartfelt goodbyes painfully made, village life is put on hold. Vows to return feel all too familiar as we are taken back to 1913 to see a very similar-looking Iddesleigh cope with the same plight less than forty years before, making the decisions of the present all the more unsettling as the same mistakes are made, the same promises broken, and the same lives torn apart once more.

Focusing entirely on war as experienced at home and through correspondence, this show is unlike any other. With a thrilling original score and an equally exhilarating script, you can expect to laugh, cry, and leave your seats singing, as this brand new musical takes you back to some of the most important events in recent memory, and the way in which they affected the lives of so many ordinary people in such extraordinary ways.

After its sell-out, five-star clean-sweep concert performance last May, The Last Post will return this November for its world-premiere. Catch this stripped back 'workshop' performance in Cambridge to get a glimpse of what's in store for this exciting new project before it moves on to pastures new.
