Following its conception last year, The Marlowe Writers' Group is opening its doors to writers and writer/performers.
The Marlowe Writers' Group was created to draw together students from across the university with a shared interest in writing to develop work together in a relaxed environment. Scriptwriting, poetry, prose and all forms of creative writing in all genres are welcome at the group.
What we primarily offer is space: time to think, space with peers, time to consider ourselves as authors both individually and as part of a community, space to listen and support one another as we explore our imaginations.
A theme such as: "exhilarate", "affliction" or "waffles" is set for each week. Though participants are invited to either use this as inspiration or just bring something they've been working on, and would like to develop, to share with the group. We each read aloud our work - often asking for an opinion on a specific piece of writing- and the group discusses it. In our successful Easter term group trials we workshopped everything from contemporary playwriting to Dickens inspired prose , sketches responding to the works of Alan Partridge, and short poems with Kate Tempest-esque riffs.
Sessions are drop in and as of Michaelmas '17 will be at 7pm on a Sunday evening. However, our first session in Michaelmas will be held 7pm on Wednesday 11th October. Location tbc.

Participants who would like to develop work for either our HATCH nights, a funding pitch to the Marlowe for an ADC play , or an OTHER PRIZE entry are also encouraged to regularly attend the group and use it as a development space.
