'Stevenage is For Lovers' at the Edinburgh Fringe: Malcolm and Roger's Wet Waterslide Party
By Bella Hull & Emma Plowright
Stevenage is for lovers is a debut hour of character comedy from Bella Hull and Emma Plowright. Malcolm and Roger are your average run-of-the-mill men’s men of the people. Except it’s not a mill they have the run of, it's a water park.
The problem is water parks don’t run themselves and, after an unfortunate beans incident, serious repairs are needed: we are talking flumes, plunge pool, lazy river. This eager pair hold a romantic and star studded pop-up fundraiser for local couples, in the hope of putting together enough cash to save the park (Roger has even smashed open his piggy bank). Despite their careful planning, some of the guests who attend are very much fighters rather than lovers (and some are both- that’s right - the ‘Smooche-libre’ romantic wrestling troupe make an appearance). With their hearts as broken as their water slides, can Malcolm and Roger prove once and for all that Stevenage really is for lovers?
