Bread Theatre and Film Company is a fresh representative voice in performing arts. Founded in 2019, we produce distinctive pieces of art across genre and forms, focussed on platforming underrepresented voices on the Cambridge stage and screen and encouraging experimental and alternative ways of storytelling. Our goal is to establish a diversity of alternative narratives at the heart of artistic spaces.

What does this mean in practice? We produce open mics, exhibitions, and fun socials for our communities to meet each other and experience art together. We sit on the ADC’s pitching panel and consistently advocate for shows that do things differently and give voice to the unheard, then we nurture & guide the production teams of shows to achieve their goals. We invite professionals to Cambridge to give workshops and talks. We are one of the only societies in Cambridge to fund new student films. We are always working with other societies to put on fun & meaningful events.

Bread takes its name from the revolutionary El Salvadorian poet Roque Dalton’s poem “Como Tú”. Dalton’s enduring vision for “those who struggle for life, love little things, landscape and bread, the poetry of everyone” is at the heart of our work.
Inspired by this radical call to hope, we experiment with fresh ways of storytelling to disrupt narratives of power. We defy traditional boundaries, weave together art forms, and create work that transcends genre, language and geography.

2025-26 Committee:
Co-Presidents: Tally Arundell (ta547) Akua Frimpong (af812)
Junior Treasurer: Miceala Williams
Senior Treasurer: Suchitra Sebastian
Secretary: Izzy Driscoll
Publicist: Ada Su Tuna
Outreach Officer: Eleftheria Mangrioti
Events Officer: Bella Ofo
Film Rep: Francesca Morgan
Tech Rep:",

In particular, CAIAC strives for contemporary dance, original live music and fine art to be supported, created and experienced on the same level as the already flourishing scenes surrounding theatre and poetry.

Practically, CAIAC undertakes a variety of roles. When it comes to facilitating, CAIAC runs a bevy of workshops each term around the city; these are open to all, regardless of experience, and typically involve an interdisciplinary edge. For example, lyric-writing workshops allow for a coming-together of poetry and original music, whilst kinetic drawing workshops see a collaboration between fine art and contemporary dance. CAIAC also believes in leading from the front and will hold its own exhibitions, talks and showcases around the city as a means of highlighting the potential and importance of interdisciplinary art at the university.

CAIAC is always open to newcomers, always open to new ideas and always open to collaboration!

Artistic Director: Charlie McGuire

Founders:

Charlie McGuire

Frankie Steel

Lucy Sims

Joe Wright

Aliya Mueller-Koegler",

We give a part to everyone who auditions and have parts with varying levels of commitment available, so if you don't want to take on too much, or if you want to steal the show, just let us know :)

At the moment, we're working on a mix of online and in-person shows, so there is also opportunity to get involved even if you're currently not in residence or would rather not commit to in-person rehearsals.
The Cambridge University Musical Theatre Society was founded in October 1998 with the aim of performing high quality musical theatre in Cambridge. CUMTS is devoted exclusively to Musical Theatre, providing scope for you to try your hand at all aspects of production: we welcome performers, orchestral players, directors, choreographers, musical directors, producers, technical directors and more.

As a society, we aim to produce quality musicals in various venues around Cambridge, mostly performing at the ADC Theatre but also Corpus Playroom and even some May Balls! Previous productions include: , ‘A Chorus Line’ (2018), ‘Chicago’ (2019), 'Company' (2022), 'Chess' (2022) 'Sunday in the Park with George' (2023) and 'Spring Awakening' (2023). Every year we also take an original musical to the Edinburgh Fringe where we have had many successful runs with productions such as ‘Six’ (now on West End and Broadway), ‘Rust’, winner of the Best Musical at The Fringe 2019, and On Your Bike, winner of Best Musical at The Fringe 2021.

Throughout the year we host 3 Bar Nights a term, all with a different theme. This gives performers in Cambridge an opportunity to display their talents in a relaxed and supportive environment as an alternative to a full run of a musical.

There are many ways to get involved in so many different areas and, at whatever level of commitment you want to make. We would love to hear from you! CUMTS is a society that not only enables people to be involved in, and learn and gain experience from productions but it also provides the perfect setting to meet new faces outside of college. More than any other genre of theatre, musicals provide the perfect atmosphere for socialising and having fun whilst creating a disciplined and inspiring production. We pride ourselves on the professional quality of our shows, but we are just as keen to provide the friendly and encouraging support needed for our members to enjoy musical theatre work in Cambridge!

As the society continues to grow, and more opportunities become available for our members, we are gaining a reputation as one of the largest, most successful, and highly regarded student musical theatre societies in the country.

If you are interested in being involved in the society, have any ideas, or just want to know more, please contact us at the emails below!

2026-2027 Committee:
President - Evie Turner - president@cumts.co.uk
Treasurer - Eve Greenfield - treasurer@cumts.co.uk
Secretary - Ella Jenkins - secretary@cumts.co.uk
Tech Rep - Amelie Charlton (Charley) - technicians-rep@cumts.co.uk
Musician's Rep - Collier Ow - musicians-rep@cumts.co.uk
Bar Nights Rep - Lauren Birbeck - bar-nights@cumts.co.uk
Publicist - Irmak Yesilkaya - publicity@cumts.co.uk
Social Secretary - Connor Nainthy - social@cumts.co.uk
Welfare Rep - Leah Helm - welfare@cumts.co.uk
Workshops Officer - Evie Hogden - workshops@cumts.co.uk
New Writing Officer - Alia Hobbs - new-writings@cumts.co.uk
Dancers Rep - Eden Wolfe-Naughton - dancers-rep@cumts.co.uk

https://www.cumts.co.uk/
The Cambridge University European Theatre Group is a self-sufficient, entirely student-run theatrical company, which tours a Shakespeare play around Europe for two and a half weeks every December (and has been doing so for over 60 years now!). It is an ambitious coach-bound operation; a company of 24 tour with professional lighting and sound equipment, costumes and an experimental set, enabling us to put on a show absolutely anywhere.

Each year we typically visit a range of venues - ranging from professional theatres, to schools and universities, and even to churches and converted bread-ovens - and travel through three or four countries. In the past, we have performed in France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, The Czech Republic, Italy and Hungary, before returning for a homerun in Cambridge the following January.

A typical day on tour doesn't exist! Every single performance is like an opening night as we usually only perform at any given venue for a day, meaning we constantly have to adapt the show, both technically and artistically, to best suit the space we are performing in. However as a rough idea, we leave the previous venue very early in the morning, arriving at the new venue around lunchtime. The entire company then unloads the coach and starts the "get-in", setting up the lighting, sound and set. Whilst the techies finish this, the cast prepare the show for this new stage. Sometimes we then put on a late matinee (and if not, we explore the town), before settling down to dinner followed by the evening show. Once the curtain comes down we rapidly "get-out", reload the coach, and by midnight, head off to stay with a host family!

Over time, ETG has developed a reputation at home and abroad for producing exciting, innovative, experimental and professional interpretations of classic texts, attracting the most ambitious actors, technicians and creative forces from within the university. We provide successive generations of company members and audiences with challenging experiences completely unimaginable elsewhere in British (let alone student) theatre. Have a look at The ETG Experience to get a better idea of what it means to be involved with such a unique and exciting group!

https://cuetg.co.uk/
Rickshaw Theatre Project is an entirely student run volunteering project that takes Cambridge students to three cities in Northern India and Nepal, where we will run educational theatre workshops with disadvantaged kids and young people. We hope to not only create a fun and safe environment in which they can develop creative skills within drama, but also a space in which they can learn valuable social skills, such skills of teamwork, the ability to build trust, and establish lasting, healthy relationships. Feedback from previous years shows the workshops were rewarding, both for the children and the volunteers, and that they made a real difference to those participating.

Traditionally, the project runs for a period of six weeks with a team of 8-12 individuals spending two weeks in three separate cities, working closely with existing NGOs and schools to deliver workshops. We recognize that 2 weeks is not a lot of time to make a lasting difference, however we aim to help build upon initiatives that are already in place and bring new forms of teaching and interaction to the NGO’s that can continue to be used even after we have left. In this way, rather than starting up initiatives of our own, we strengthen and help develop ones that will be able to continue to make a difference over a long period of time.",

Based in the Howard Theatre, a multi-million-pound facility generously donated by Downing Alumnus Professor Alan Howard, we present numerous shows including our now very successful annual Lent Term DDS Freshers' Play and the Downing Festival of New Writing.

The Howard Theatre, designed in the Neo-Classical style by famed architect Quinlan Terry, is a state-of-the-art facility used for both conferences and theatrical productions with a total capacity of 160 people. Its styled interior has made it suitable for many period productions such as Oscar Wilde's 'Lady Windermere's Fan', Tom Stoppard's 'Arcadia', and many more. However, the space has proven, still to be incredibly versatile, being used for contemporary New Writing productions as well.

We are proving to be a major player in Cambridge's dramatic scene, funding incredibly successful shows both at and outside of the Howard Theatre and Heong Gallery.

The society is always looking for people with new ideas. The society takes its name from the college's link to the Renaissance poet Sir Philip Sidney and his famous work 'The Arcadia'. Recently rejuvenated for a new generation, the New Arcadians welcome talent from across Cambridge to take part in a variety of shows and events. From sketches, to musical theatre performances, to full-length plays, The New Arcadians turn their hand to anything, offering enjoyment to those involved as well as those watching. Above all they bring the friendly flavour of Sidney Sussex to Cambridge drama.",

We are always looking to fund alternative theatre and new student comedy, promoting fresh and experimental projects in the heart of Cambridge theatre.

We are particularly interested in new writing. Putting on your own shows can be difficult; often new plays, comedies and sketch shows can be overlooked and left to do everything for themselves. But the Shirley Players are dedicated to supporting such new and interesting projects. The sort of shows that start conversations.

What makes the Shirley Players unique in Cambridge is that we actively aim to publicise as well as fund the shows we support. Many great shows have passed by unnoticed because people simply didn’t know they were on. The Shirley Players will work with you and your producers on a publicity campaign across posters, flyers, social media and the student papers to make sure this does not happen. Your job is to make something you are proud of, our job is to get people to come see it.

Current Presidents: Caitlin Devenport (cd800@cam.ac.uk) & Ellie Robinson (er610@cam.ac.uk)",

Established with the inaugural Pride & Prejudice (Taylor’s Version) May Week Play in the St Edmund’s College Orchard, CCC was created to offer high-quality theatre that is accessible, collaborative, and community-minded.

Since its founding, CCC has produced an annual free-entry May Week Play in the St Edmund’s Orchard, including An Ideal Husband (2024) and Checchina’s Virtue (2025). In June 2025, CCC also co-funded an independent production of Pride and Prejudice at the ADC Theatre.

The society operates on a philanthropic model rather than a profit-driven one. Central to CCC’s mission is supporting emerging creatives, encouraging student-written work and providing resources, infrastructure, and guidance for writers, directors, and actors. All profits made from ticketed shows are used to set up grants and scholarships for students seeking funding for out-of-term creative projects, such as the Edinburgh and Camden Fringe.

The society also runs acting and performance workshops for students from any college.

Curtain Call Collaborative also acts as a production company. Students working with CCC receive hands-on support from the committee, including rehearsal-space booking in St Edmund's, access to props and set pieces, scheduling assistance, and general production management.

Since its conception in 2023, the Society has continued to be run by its founder, Lara Harris.",

Any Cambridge student should feel free to reach out to Magpie and request funding or support for their productions, though preference will be given to comedic shows, stand-up shows, pantos and musicals. Our eternal president is a taxidermied Magpie on a tree stump (which was given to the society in 1900), but the Society is usually run by two or three Trinity students with experience from the ADC or with a taste for good comedy.

An outline of Magpie's history can be found on page 6 of this 2014 edition of Trinity's alumni magazine, The Fountain: https://alumni.trin.cam.ac.uk/file/Trinity_The_Fountain_2014_web.pdf",

Recent productions include ‘Like Rabbits’ (2026), ‘Comedy of Errors’ (2026) ‘Amadeus’ (2026), and 'Ghosts' (2025).

Of late, we have been delighted to welcome former Artistic Director of the National Theatre Sir Richard Eyre (2025), Old Vic Artistic Director Rupert Goold (2025), playwright Juliet Gilkes Romero (2024) and director Rebecca Frecknall (2024).

The Dryden Society led the inaugural Arts Week at Trinity (2025), which returned in 2026. We lead on a variety of events during the week and have been involved with the LGBTQ+ Arts Night in the Chapel, joint with the TCSU, since its inception.

We also host a New Writing 'Scratch Night' each Michaelmas term. This is hosted by our Shaffer Playwright in Residence who selects a 'winner': this individual will then be able to redeem funding from the society should they wish to stage a full-length production of their show in Cambridge.

We are both a social society and a producing society. All of our shows must have 'significant Trinity involvement' so do bear this in mind if you contact us with a funding application. The funding awarded may be proportional to the degree of Trinity involvement.

The committee is aware that student theatre in Cambridge has been taking a somewhat commercial turn of late. We are therefore keen to support shows by lesser-known playwrights, or bold and innovative productions of classics. We strongly believe that University is a time for experimentation, risk-taking and learning: students who think similarly and are passionate about their proposed piece are encouraged to contact us! We are also happy to explore funding for original writing.

Email address - drydensoc@gmail.com

💫🎭⭐️

PRESIDENT
Cressida Massey-Cook (cbrm2)

SECRETARY
Edwin Fletcher (ejhf2)

SENIOR TREASURER
Professor Adrian Poole

JUNIOR TREASURER & VICE PRESIDENT
Marcus Smith (mprs2)

EVENTS OFFICERS
Zhanna
Taro

PUBLICITY OFFICER
Imi Whelan

FRESHERS’ REPS
tbc 2026-27",
