Clare Actors presents...
A Midsummer Night's Dream
By William Shakespeare
Easter May Week
“Are you sure that we are awake? It seems to me that yet we sleep, we dream”
Athens. A woodland. Men, women and faeries.
After escaping the oppressive intentions of Athens' leaders, intentions of marriage and legacy, two young lovers, Lysander and Hermia, escape the city's clutches and convene in the nearby woodland: a place both strange and wonderful. But as the lovers delve furthur into the woodland so to does their reality inhabit the likeness of a dream.
Joined by Helena and Demetrius, two other youths of Athens, the four lovers are quickly subject to forces outside of their control: the misguided ploy of its resident faeries. People sleep, people fall in love, and order slowly fades away with the night.
For this year's play in Clare Fellow's Garden's we are putting on 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', Shakespeare's timeless comedy, which will occupy four days in May Week. This will be a hugely
exciting opportunity to enact theatre in the beautiful Clare gardens, *///en naturale///*, and be a part of a unique and hilarious project.
“And yet, to say the truth, reason and love keep little company together nowadays.”
