Robinson college boasts two wonderful venues, the well equipped 230-seater Robinson Auditorium and the beautiful outside amphitheatre, the Maria Björnson Theatre. We aim to do at least two shows per term. Recent shows have included titles such as Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Cymbeline, Jesus Christ Superstar, Barber's Vanessa and CUG&S's The Gondoliers, as well as new writing.

Applications to direct in the theatre and amphitheatre are welcome. We are also keen to here from people interested in getting involved in all aspects of the theatre, from light and sound to set design to front of house management. While we will advertise for specific projects, please feel free to apply speculatively!

Brickhouse remains very open to members of other colleges and responds positively to all interest expressed. Feel free to get in contact at any time, whatever your interest or experience!

Brickhouse Theatre Company posted: * * Jerusalem * * Thursday 23rd – Saturday 25th February 2017, 7:30pm Robinson College Auditorium Next week, following its relative absence from the theatre circuit, Brickhouse is bringing Jerusalem back with a bang. Sex, drugs and a fair amount of Morris dancing are all on the agenda as the characters celebrate St George’s day in style. Get lost in the fantastical world of Johnny Rooster Byron and his gang of waifs and strays as they reminisce, prophesize and lament the state of our green and pleasant land. A hugely versatile cast guides us through the highs and lows of this momentous day. With Lee leaving for Australia and Kennet and Avon council hot on Johnny’s trail, there’s a sense that this rag tag group will never be the same again. Watch as they struggle to let go and eventually come to terms with a life of rural banality, in a play that is in one minute hysterically funny and the other deeply revealing. The show’s directors, Emma Snell and Rowan Hall Maudslay say of the production: “We felt like the world of theatre is so often crowded with lofty, inaccessible pieces and we wanted to put on something utterly unpretentious. Jerusalem is that play, its bold and loud and thoroughly entertaining. A play for people who don’t like plays as well as for those who do.” ‘Jerusalem’ runs from Thursday 23rd to Saturday 25th February at 7:30pm in the Robinson College Auditorium. Tickets are only £8 (£6 concession) and can be purchased online: https://brickhouse.tessera.info More details about this, and all of our other shows can be found on our website: www.brickhouse.soc.srcf.net or on our social media channels: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram (@BrickhouseTC). Also, don’t miss out on seeing ‘Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead’, which continues tonight at 7:30pm! Tickets available both online and on the door. We look forward to seeing you at the Brickhouse soon!

Make sure that you grab your tickets now! "Heads, heads, heads." Have you ever wondered if you're not, in fact, the leading role in your own life but, actually, a walk-on part in someone else's tragedy? It's been a while since Rosencrantz and Guildenstern last saw Hamlet, their old friend from university, and things in Denmark have gotten a little rotten since then. These two minor characters, who watch from the wings as Shakespeare's play unfolds, are thrown centre-stage to make sense of it all. Tickets on sale now: https://brickhouse.tessera.info ** BACK TO THE 80s ** Thursday 2nd - Saturday 4th March 2017, 7:45pm Saturday 4th March, 2:30pm Robinson College Auditorium Join the graduating class of William Ocean High School as they live through their final senior year - as they experience the fun, the heartbreak, the loves and the loneliness of growing up… all set to the biggest hits of the 80’s! Set in the USA, Back To The 80’s tells the story of 17-year-old Corey, who is madly in love with Tiffany Houston, one of the coolest girls in the school. However, she is too busy mooning over Michael Feldman, the hottest guy around. Michael and his friends are athletic and good-looking - the kind of guys that Corey and his two best friends dream of being. However, while they may not be the coolest guys in school, they are still one up on Feargal McFerrin, who believes the crazy notion that one day CD’s will replace cassette tapes! The plot follows Class President Elections, the arrival of several new students, and the teachers’ own problematic relationship. Throw in a Star Wars dream sequence, high-energy dance routines, the obligatory 80’s party scene, as well as some of the most popular songs ever written, and the result is a musical that will delights and amuses!

Brickhouse Theatre Company posted: Our upcoming week five play is Jez Butterworth's acclaimed 'Jerusalem'! Following rave reviews of its premiere in 2009, at the Royal Court Theatre, Jerusalem’s run was extended and transferred to the Apollo. Jerusalem follows Johnny "Rooster" Byron on St. George’s Day, who besides being a local waster and modern day Pied Piper, is also a wanted man. Council officials want to evict him, his son wants to be taken to the fair, and his rag-tag group of mates wants his ample supply of drugs and alcohol. It’s a play about contemporary life in rural England, described by The Guardian as “unarguably one of the best dramas of the twenty-first century”. It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice, or take a stand, or turn around and go back.” With a rousing score that blends elements of pop, gospel and jazz, featuring tight harmonies and darling vocals, Songs for a New World transports its audience from the deck of a spanish sailing ship bound for a new land, to the ledge of a New York penthouse. Characters range from a young man in the Bronx who dreams of becoming a famous basketball player, to a forlorn and neglected Mrs. Claus lamenting as Christmas approaches. A small but powerful diverse cast and a supercharged, well crafted score appeal to old and new generations alike as each character- in their own way- takes hold of that one moment and enters a new world.
