** ACTING WORKSHOPS FOR ARTISTS Keynes Hall, King's College

What does it mean to be an artist? An actor? How does an artist bring TRUTH to the stage or to their art?

These are some of the fundamental questions that will be the basis of the 'Acting Workshops for Artists'. Based on Stanislavski's school of thought, the workshops will cumulatively focus on freeing up the performer, cultivating diverse acting skills, and developing an awareness of one's own sub-conscious. Through a series of dynamic acting exercises, reflective journal work, character work, scene study, and a dialogue between artists, the workshops will encourage each performer to be true throughout their artistic journeys.

The workshops will give actors the opportunity and the reach to participate directly in rehearsed readings for Mummers plays, new scripts, and other speaker events such as the ‘Directors in Discussion’ series. The atmosphere will be relaxed and hopefully enlightening. Absolutely no experience in theatre is needed - just come along if you have a creative spirit. All you need to bring is an open mind (and a small notebook).

Workshops will be run by the Mummers Actor-in-Residence, Pia Sukanya. A third year Social Anthropologist as well as an aspiring singer/actress, Pia has trained at the Circle in the Square Theatre School on Broadway, New York and has been singing for 17 years.

Workshops will be held on Tuesdays 4-6pm, beginning Week 2 (19 Oct) at Keynes Hall in King's College.
