The Harry Porter Prize is an annual new writing competition for a one-hour comic play, established in memory of the late Dr Harry Porter, the Footlights’ long-time Senior Archivist. Submissions are welcome from all current students of The University of Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin University (this includes incoming freshers). We warmly encourage anyone excited by the prize to apply, regardless of any previous comedy or playwriting experience. The winning entry will be chosen by an external guest judge (past judges have included Emma Sidi, Phil Wang and Alex Horne) and staged in Easter Term with Footlights support and funding. Pretty exciting stuff if you ask me!

Or execute divine justice as a dreadful funerary statue? Or, perhaps, playing Requiem and being poisoned by Salieri speaks to you? In the plays that will appear in the double bill of Pushkin's Little Tragedies, you can find: an eternal conflict of a jealous hard-working craftsman with a careless genius, a life in pursuit of eros that culminates in a well-deserved, yet tragically picturesque death, poison in a glass of wine, and the Stone Guest statue coming alive to take revenge on his murderer. This is Russian drama at its finest, created by a poet under censorship, at the height of his creative glory.
