Utopia Ltd is a vibrant show poking fun at the corporate world through the lens of an unbridled paradise! We're looking for a design team to help us bring to life the colour and maximalism of the Utopia and a constrained minimalism of the Limited Company.... Looking for a Publicity Designer , a Publicist , a Costume Designer , a Lighting Designer  and a Set Designer !

Gilbert and Sullivan’s Utopia, Limited (1893) is a satirical operetta that explores themes of modernization, imperialism, and bureaucracy. The original story sets the plot on a fictional tropical island, where King Paramount seeks to adopt British customs and governance. With the help of his English-educated daughter, Princess Zara, and a group of British advisors, Utopia is restructured as a “company limited,” replacing its traditional monarchy with corporate-style administration.

Utopia Ltd pokes fun at the English Establishment and is filled with jargon-heavy proposals and disdain for “semi-barbarous society”. To me, this conjures images of both the British Empire but also the boardroom of some corporate giant. Pathetic, self-righteous rulers conjure up images of a stagnant Royal Family but also man-children CEOs who run the world. There’s a new form of Empire in town, and that is global capitalism. My vision for the show looks to present the operetta in a setting both contemporary and timeless (goodbye fictional vaguely ‘exotic’ tropical island that felt just a wee bit Orientalist…), following corporate suits as they make their way into the colourful, subversive, Utopia.
