Lent Week 4
Shows at West Road Concert Hall mean different audiences, different genres and different challenges! WRCH shows are a good stepping stone if you want to produce/direct/LD tour shows and we'd love you to be the one to take on that opportunity. We're looking for a director , producer , musical director , production manager and/or a lighting designer to bring this much-loved show to life.

As one of the ‘big three’, CUGSS are delighted to be bringing HMS Pinafore to West Road Concert Hall for the first time in almost a decade! When the daughter of the Captain of a Royal Navy ship falls in love with a lower ranking sailor [shock horror] chaos erupts, centring how love transcends themes of Victorian morality, class and expectation all wrapped up in the wonderful music and memorable lyrics audiences know and love. The Society is looking for a team to bring this production to a Cambridge audience for our Mainshow 2026 with the help of the committee and previous production members.
Director
We are looking for a Director for the show with a vision of bringing it to the West Road Stage! Working on a G&S show offers a similar experience to working on a Musical or Opera working with the witty script of Gilbert embraced by Sullivan’s music.
To apply please email secretary@gands.org.uk by the 12th December, answering the following:
In your application please state:
- Why you are interested in directing this production and any ideas you may have
Any experience that would relate to this role whether in Cambridge or beyond! - How you envision this role and who else you may appoint as part of your team
Musical Director
Our Musical Director will work with the Director and performers in rehearsals and conduct an Orchestra in the pit at West Road! Pinafore offers one of the most popular G&S scores with many a well-known tune, as with Directing this opportunity is comparable to MDing a Musical or Opera, offering a tremendous opportunity to engage the music.
To apply please email secretary@gands.org.uk by the 12th December, answering the following:
In your application please state:
- Why you are interested in musical directing this production and any ideas you may have
- Any experience that would relate to this role
- How you envision this role and who else you may appoint as part of your team
Producer
The Producer is responsible for managing the rest of the Production, working with the Core Prod team to deliver the show in one of Cambridge’s less common theatre venues. You will liaise with the team at WRCH, manage the budget and have oversight of all areas of the Production schedule. This offers an opportunity to Produce a show beyond the ADC and is well suited to those looking to gain more experience in this area. It’s also an opportunity to work closely with CUOS as we often share much of the logistics involved in producing a show.
To apply please email secretary@gands.org.uk by the 12th December, answering the following:

- Why you are interested in Producing this production and any ideas you may have

Production Manager &/or Lighting Designer /Team
Transforming West Road from a Concert Hall into a Theatre is no mean feat, however due to changes at the venue both infrastructurally and otherwise there is a lower barrier to entry this year. That being said, if you want to work with a big budget and gain experience managing a hire order that opportunity is there! The venue now features an array of Colour Source Fresnels alongside its extensive collection of conventionals and there are experienced G&Sers who have done this before and are happy to offer advice for those wanting to gain experience venturing into other venues in Cambridge and beyond!
