    About the Production

Hi! My name is Jennifer and I am the writer and director  of Darling Dido which is a psychological coming-of-age play set in post–First World War England. While grounded in the 1920s, the world of the play is not naturalistic realism. The production leans into a whimsical, slightly surreal, circus-inspired aesthetic, a heightened reality where the domestic space feels performative, fragile, and unstable. Think 1920s silhouettes and textures filtered through a dreamlike, unsettling lens.

At its core, Darling Dido is an intimate, character-driven piece that explores desire, power, race, and girlhood. Rehearsals will prioritise collaboration, care, and curiosity, with a strong emphasis on ensemble work and a supportive creative environment.

This is my first time directing a self-written play, and I am looking for a passionate, organised, and imaginative production team who are excited to help shape a bold and thoughtful piece of student theatre.

All are welcome to participate but due to the nature of the story I am especially looking for production team members from global majority ethnic backgrounds. Thanks :)
