Scene In An Evening is looking for WRITER/DIRCTORS

Scene In An EveningQueens' College Amateur Dramatics Society
00:00, Sun 25th January – Fri 13th February 2026 at Queens' College
Lent Week 1 to Week 3

We're looking for Writers/Directors  who have a single scene they'd like to film this term! No experience required, and flexible timelines.

Silver Street Productions, the Queens' College filmmaking company, invites you to take part in "Scene In An Evening", a small film project.

Over Lent term, in small groups, you will plan, film and edit a 3-minute scene by your group's writer/director , with the support of one of Silver Street's company members. You can apply as a complete beginner for any role! The aim is just to make something and learn.

This is a small project for anyone new to filmmaking, who wants to get involved/give it a go. It's designed to be a small time commitment, with only one evening of shooting!

    =============

Writer/Director  - please submit either a script of up to 4 pages, or a short summary / treatment of the scene you'd like to shoot. This is your chance to have something you've written made! As the director  also, you will be in charge of your team and creative calls, primarily in directing actors. Ideally these scripts have 2x actors (at most 3) and can be shot in one or two locations around Queens' College - please get in touch if you're not sure or you have questions!

We've combined writer and director , because we want to give you full creative ownership of this project, and we believe it's important for you to work on the whole process, though you may apply as a writer/director  pair if you'd like to (you can do this in one form).

We aim to keep this project low-commitment, but as the lead, you will be in charge of making your script come to life, so expect to do a little more than others (though we don't want this project to be a burden for you!).

We are asking for scene scripts or summaries at this point (or not-yet-adapted scripts for stage, for example), but if accepted would like to see the scripts finished by the end of Week 1.

You will be in charge of organising your team, planning and scheduling the shoot, and asking for any help you need from your committee member.

We don't think you'll need more than a couple of production meetings and a rehearsal or two before your shoot evening, to give a sense of the time commitment.

    Requirements for the script:
Can be shot between 5pm and 10pm in Queens' College on one evening.
No more than one or two locations (consider which you have access to - public areas / possibly the theatre (not guaranteed) / a bedroom / bookable rooms / outside).
2 actors (up to 3 at most).
You'll have access to the core of our film kit, with more on request (ask for more details on this if you need it, but kit will be the responsibility of your gaffer / DoP).
This can be adapted from something you've had lying around, whether a part of something longer or not, or it can be something you've just written this week to give it a go.

We imagine that these will mostly be conversation-based scenes, but you have good kit and support so feel free to be creative!
