Scene In An Evening is looking for DIRECTORS OF PHOTOGRAPHY / LIGHTING DESIGNERS (GAFFERS)

Scene In An EveningQueens' College Amateur Dramatics Society
00:00, Sun 25th January – Fri 13th February 2026 at Queens' College
Lent Week 1 to Week 3

Scene In An Evening offers the chance to try being a DoP or Gaffer (film lighting designer ) on a short scene, on an evening this term (decided in your group). No experience required, this is meant to let you have a go at a new role!

    Silver Street Productions, the Queens' College filmmaking company, invites you to take part in "Scene In An Evening", a small film project.

    Over Lent term, in small groups, you will plan, film and edit a 3-minute scene by your group's writer/director, with the support of one of Silver Street's company members. You can apply as a complete beginner for any role! The aim is just to make something and learn.

    This is a small project for anyone new to filmmaking, who wants to get involved/give it a go. It's designed to be a small time commitment, with only one evening of shooting!

    =============

    Director of Photography (DoP) - you will be in charge of the camera, picking angles, movements, focus and configuration. Before the shoot, you will storyboard how you want each shot to look. (To emphasise, there will be a committee member to help guide you, even if you've never used a professional camera!) You will also edit the film between the shoot and the start of Easter term (with editing check-in help). Because of this commitment, this is a more demanding role, but does not require experience.

    Gaffer (Lighting Designer ) - you will be in charge of using our lights to make actors look dramatic on screen, and help tell the story through atmosphere. (This role will also have support - all that's needed is a willingness to learn.) This will be a less demanding technical role.

    The shoot date will be chosen within your group to fit your schedules!
