LIKE RABBITS is seeking male actors to complete the cast for a rehearsed reading on 15th February. This is a low-commitment (script in hand, no lines to learn and only brief rehearsal), exciting opportunity to be part of the first outing of a new play by the Peter Shaffer Playwright-in-Residence, Imogen Usherwood. This is a rambunctious, lively play about real historical events, when a young woman called Mary Toft became famous across England in 1726 for printing to give birth to rabbits. It is a relaxed process for a staged reading, so no audition is required: please get in touch to express an interest and we will get back to you!

We are looking to fill the following roles:

NATHANAEL ST ANDRÉ - physician to the King. An eccentric, foppish Swiss doctor whose time spent in the royal court has clearly rubbed off on him. (French accent)
RICHARD MANNINGHAM - senior physician and midwife, emerges as the villain of the story. He is overeducated, self-assured, and smug.
KING GEORGE I - eccentric, imperious, a show-stealing comic part.
JOHN MAUBRAY - an argumentative doctor. (Scottish accent)
JAMES DOUGLAS - an equally argumentative doctor. (Scottish accent)
DUKE OF RICHMOND - a posh, laddish type, another great comic part.

This is a relaxed process for a staged reading, so no audition is required: please get in touch to express an interest and we will get back to you!

Please contact Imogen Usherwood (iu220@cam.ac.uk) or James Critchley (jc2272@cam.ac.uk) to express an interest.

The deadline to get in touch is 30th January at 23:59.

    Contact iu220@cam.ac.uk, jc2272@cam.ac.uk before 30th Jan 2026 23:59 for more details.
