    Cambridge Opera Workshop: 5 Scenes

19:30, Sat 16th November 2019 at St John's College Old Divinity School
    Michaelmas Week 5

The Cambridge Opera Workshop is a new opera-making endeavour which brings together student composers and librettists to create new work under professional mentorship. It aims to foster a continued rich tradition of new music and theatre-making in Cambridge, create a hub for creation and discussion adjacent to both academia and professional opera-making, and expose new audiences to this dynamic and highly engaging art form.

This performance will showcase five new mini-operas in development, with music and words by current students and recent graduates of the University of Cambridge, exploring everything from Ancient Greek tragedy to a night at the movies. '5 Scenes' will provide the audience with an insight into the world of opera-making and include discussion with the workshop mentors, Professor Tim Watts (composer and Sub-Director of Studies in Music at St John’s College) and Gareth Mattey (writer, director and graduate of Trinity Hall). Excitingly, the show will conclude with an excerpt from Tim Watts’ own opera-in-development.
