Easter Week 7
Checchina's Virtue
Checchina's Virtue is the 2025 St Edmund's College May Week Play by its Theatre Society, Curtain Call Collaborative.
A depiction of victorian female alienation
This text was written by Matilde Serao and published in 1884, in a collection of short stories that
set out to realistically represent the inner life of young women, something that no male author
was able to do, according to its author.
Serao set out to imitate and challenge French authors’ production, and this story was thought to
be a parody of Madame Bovary.
