Director of Photography wanted for Glass House (the film)!
Glass House (Film) – Cambridge Arts Initiative and Collective
00:00, Sat 7th – Sun 15th February 2026 at TBALent Week 2 to Week 4
Glass House, after its successful run at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe, is being adapted into a short film with plans to shoot in early 2026. We are looking for a Director of Photography to offer their expertise for a shoot that will take place on the weekends of the 7th/8th and 14th/15th of February, 2026 (provisional dates). We would love to hear from any and all applicants irrespective of background or current position. We are looking for someone with developed technical skill behind a camera, whilst previous experience as DoP on a short film shoot is preferred. Please don't hesitate to apply if you are someone who enjoys camera-work but does not have as much experience on film shoots - we would still love to hear what you could bring to the table.
Glass House was originally written as play by Charlie McGuire (cm2238@cam.ac.uk). It is an unravelling of events on a bus journey, the night of February 14th, 2011. The play uncovers how, on a night of unrelenting rain and flooding in the British countryside, a standoff between a stubborn bus driver and a houseless man who can't afford a ticket slides into a mire of tension and social conflict which brings the passengers to a repugnant dilemma.
It is being adapted to a shortened screen-play by Charlie with shoot dates set for February next year. With a cast already confirmed, we are starting to build a production team that will be able to pull off this feat. With the added difficulty of the fact that most of the filming will be done on an actual bus, Glass House (the film) is a technical challenge that promises to be incredibly exciting, and educational, for anybody looking to develop their filmic experience.
We would like applicants to address an email to Aidan, the Producer (ac2497@cam.ac.uk) and Charlie, the writer/director (cm2238@cam.ac.uk) which answers the following questions:
1) Do you have any experience as a DoP? If so, could you describe the key projects you've worked on and your main takeaway from the project/projects?
2) Can you describe an occasion where a shoot you've worked on posed a technical challenge or difficulty? Can you describe how you navigated the situation?
3) Do you have any experience on set as a director , actor, or in any other role? How was that role similar/different to being a DoP? (no worries if not!)
4) Why are you interested in working on Glass House?
5) What is your favourite use of camera-movement in a film?
6) Are you happy to edit (or help edit) the film come the end of shooting?
7) Can you bring your own camera/lenses to the table? If so, what camera do you work with?
NOTE 1: If you do not own a camera, or would prefer not to use your own camera, we are able to source one. It would be good to hear about your own equipment (or equipment you may have access to) as an option, especially if you have access to a camera which is superior to the Sony A7III.
NOTE 2: Please could you attach links to any camera-work you are proud of, or any projects that you have been working on. If you have a portfolio, please include a link to it.
We look forward to hearing from you. Please send your application as soon as possible! The official deadline is 23:59 on the 28th November.
Contact ac2497@cam.ac.uk before 28th Nov 2025 23:59 for more details.
