Deadline extension to apply to direct 'GHOST'!!

Festival of New WritingDDS
19:30, Thu 12th – Sat 14th March 2026 at Howard Theatre, Downing College
Lent Week 7

Hi! I’m Kaitlin, a second-year English student at Lucy Cav. I’m really excited to say that an extract from my script, ‘Ghost’, is being performed at this year’s Festival of New Writing!

‘Ghost’ follows Sophie, who has recently died in a tragic accident. However, instead of passing over to a better (or worse) place, she is trapped in a state of purgatorial observance: she is watching her family and friends as they grieve, but they cannot hear or see or hear her, so she cannot intervene.

It sounds heavy, I understand, but it was so important to me to explore grief in this way. It is a universal experience, and influences every piece of media we consume in some way, and yet it's also so personal and, ultimately, indescribable. I was really interested in this tension and in creating a space to talk about grief, explore how it affects our relationships, and how someone might react watching it from a distance.

Why would you like to direct this script?
Do you have any experience directing? (none required!)
Do you have any initial ideas for how you would stage this script?
