A Midsummer Night's Dream - Clare May Week Play 2025
By William Shakespeare

15:00, Wed 25th – Fri 27th June 2025 at Clare College Fellows' Gardens
Easter May Week

Fairies. Lovers. Betrayal. Hermia wants Lysander, Demetrius wants Hermia, Helena wants Demetrius. It’s complicated. Our Dream is bursting full of life, staged around the iconic pond of Clare’s sunken garden, Athens lures the audience into our tale as we watch Theseus and Hippolyta (the Proper English Couple™) squabbling at a garden party, the fairyland emerges as the typical British garden party loses its frigid restraint and gets closer to a punky festival setting. The play questions - what happens when we let our protective propriety slip away? The themes at the core of the play are those of transformation, duality, and the fickle winds of fate which blow our lives into shape.
