Raindrops on a White Pear Blossom, a new play by Leo Lu and the Michaelmas Week 4 Corpus Mainshow, is looking for three actors!!

Synopsis

"Chinese people has a saying describing crying woman. Li Hua Dai Yu. Raindrops on a white pear flower. I always wanted to have a girl like that. So soft, so protected. So beautiful."

June 2005, London. Young Chinese immigrant Lily Wei struggles to improve her English and escape low-paid work, while raising her intense, secretive “friend” Evelyn. Evelyn soon reveals herself as Lily’s daughter sent back from 2025—by unknown means—to save Lily from a lifetime of abusive men, poverty, and regret.
When Brett, a well-meaning but entitled City intern, becomes Lily’s new romantic possibility, Evelyn weaponises her future knowledge to sabotage the relationship, insisting she is protecting her mother from emotional ruin. The mother-daughter relationship becomes inverted as daughter fights for control over mother's life, and after a final fight makes the duo finally see the naked truth about their twisted love, Lily attempts to leave and Evelyn acquiesces, welcoming a new day alone but free.

Audition slots are online (via Google Meet) from Fri 14th - Sun 16th August between 09:00–17:00. Self-tapes are also accepted up to 23:59 on Monday 17th August.

A note on casting

Due to Lily’s characterisation and the cultural background of the play, we strongly encourage actors of Asian heritage to audition for Lily. However, please note that auditions and roles are open to performers of all backgrounds, regardless of ethnicity, gender identity or sexual orientation. We warmly welcome and particularly encourage applications from the BAME and LGBTQIA+ communities.
