Vigil (Smorgasbord) is looking for Actors!

Hi! I’m Anna Takács, a second-year Philosophy student at Christ’s College and the writer of Vigil. The play was first performed last year at the Shadwell Society Showcase, and I had a really lovely experience working on it! I’m very excited to have the opportunity to bring it to the stage again, this time at the Corpus Playroom.

Vigil is an exploration of generational trauma, faith, and self-destruction. Although the text is quite sombre, I would sometimes like to lean into its potential for dark comedy. The two protagonists take themselves terribly seriously, and this is one of the central causes of their suffering. Their inability to see beyond their own perspectives, combined with their melodramatic severity, becomes almost absurd in its extremity.
