Hi! My name is Isabel Haubro-Suppanz and I am a third year PhD student at Darwin College. This play is inspired by my experiences as well as those of friends who are still pursuing PhDs and those who have given up on them. I am new to writing plays and the Cambridge theatre scene but I am so excited about getting this on the Corpus playroom stage for Smörgåsbord. Please be in touch if you are interested in being involved!

Is doing a PhD like being Clark Kent?
The play is a one-person monologue working through the motivations and challenges of pursuing a PhD using a superman metaphor. The main character is stuck in what is commonly called the mid-PhD slump. This is the time around second year, when you have made all the easy progress and are now building expertise that will hopefully pay off towards the end of the PhD. It requires an immense amount of hope and self-confidence to hang in there for that moment where it starts coming together. This can cause self-doubt and re-evaluating what a PhD is really for.

Please see the audition pack here

The bi-termly, electrically eclectic Smörgåsbord returns, and with it, auditions! If you are new to Cambridge theatre and would love an opportunity to test the waters, Smorgasbord is YOUR perfect opportunity to get involved in a low-stress, low-commitment acting environment.
