We’re looking for a Techie to come and help us programme lights for our run at the Camden Fringe this year!

    Synopsis

Liam is sick. Matthew is sick of him. Trapped in a run down flat in Belfast, dying of AIDs, Liam depends on Matthew for everything. He rants and rambles, desperate for release or entertainment. Matthew, meanwhile, finds his patience wearing thin.

This irreverent dark comedy traps the audience with the characters in the claustrophobia of illness, caregiving and resentment. One scene, one set, spanning one endless argument: every beat of the frustration and the building tension is felt in real time. Balancing raw humour with intense emotion, this two-hander confronts sickness, shame and guilt through a distinctly Irish humour.

Rooted in the real historical context of both the Troubles and the AIDs crisis, the play sheds new light on overlooked perspectives. With biting dialogue and unbroken narrative, Giving Out offers an unflinching, immersive theatrical experience which is as funny as it is devastating.

    Further Info

We are looking for someone experienced in lighting design to programme our show for our run in the Etcetera Theatre in London.

You must be available in August to take part, and will be expected to attend a tech rehearsal once it is has been decided upon by the venue.

We are able to provide a limited bursary of £150 towards living expenses. If you wish to see specs/information regarding the lighting equipment available at the venue, please email jp2104@cam.ac.uk for further information. It should be noted that owing to the play’s minimalist approach, you will not need to programme a complex plan, but we would still encourage applicants to have lighting experience.

Contact jp2104@cam.ac.uk before 10th Jun 2026 01:00 for more details.
