MY FRIENDS SAY I SHOULD ACT MY AGE (WHAT'S MY AGE AGAIN?) – Writer, Publicity Designer

19:30, Tue 20th – Fri 23rd February 2024 at Fitzpatrick Hall

“You’re not my type. You’re not particularly funny and you’re a bit too intense for me. But I think you have the potential to be marvellous.”

Meet Antonia. Toni for short.
She's an actress. Or at least, she’s trying to be.

Toni has spent her entire life wearing other people’s faces and finds comfort hiding behind the experiences of others. She can’t seem to write anything meaningful, or anything that really belongs to her.

It’s Friday night, and Toni’s one-woman show opens on Monday. Except, she hasn’t written it yet. She is trying to rehearse when Niko accidentally walks in on her, asking for the keys so that he can lock up the theatre. Awkward, yet charming, Niko’s personality is infectious and immediately catches Toni’s attention.

And so their relationship begins.

Toni and Niko’s relationship unfolds over the 3-day trajectory of the play, the scenes alternating between the theatre space to Toni’s bedroom, all the while focused on the clumsiness with which they get to know each other and their budding intimacy.

It’s not really a love story. It’s more a story about love. About learning to love oneself, of letting go, of returning to a place of imagination and play. It is a show with conversation at its centre, as the two strangers navigate their different understandings of family, friendship and death.
